New Decor

Two in one day??? Wow, I'm really avoiding grading...
Here's a couple pictures of my new quilt from Mom - doesn't it look awesome? And she managed to incorporate my love of paisley (it's weird, huh? - the one thing I can't shake from the 80's).

Also, my birthday present from her and Dad, "decor" for my kitchen... one area down, 3 to go...

Finally some new thoughts...

Why does the urge to do nothing strike in the busiest time of year? I just want to curl up in front of the fire with a good book and listen to my new iPod music, but there's cleaning up after the holidays, Superbowl Parties, Daytona 500, visits from more wonderful family and friends, history fair, and REPORT CARDS - yuck. Then there's the taxes, FAFSA, and clearing out the yearly files. Every time I think I have a moment to update the blog, oops! something else needs my attention. Plus, weirdly, whenever I had a break, the snow would fall and the satellite wouldn't work... But I did finally clean out the emails that were filing the inbox...you know that feeling when things are stacking up around you everywhere??? Yep, starting the knockdown process.

Andy's been busy getting the garage in order...now we have 2 cars in the garage, and room to move around! Look at those shelves! He also started his workbench area on the opposite side. It's so nice to save the cars from exposure, and, I must admit, to get into a warm car in the morning...

He's also taken the dogs out for runs at Coral Pink (yes) Sand Dunes... There is sand somewhere under all that snow. This was from the big storm a couple of weeks ago - when Flagstaff got like 53 inches of snow! We were sad we missed the snow, but not the wind....

We've had wet El Nino weather... been pretty muddy around here, so the house looks dirty less than 24 hours after it's been cleaned. I know that the fireplace and 4 dogs don't help, but really... But, on the positive side, it is starting to get lighter longer, so as soon as I can walk up on the hill(mud, dontcha know), hiking and biking will come back into my life! I probably would have been a total wreck without the yoga afternoon at school... I love Sharleen!

Had a great visit with Grandpa Don, Katie, Logan, and Ivy over my birthday... too bad I came down with a stomach bug that kept me in bed for 30 hours. When I got up Sunday, we had a great Valentine's breakfast - yummy french toast and sausage. Then we went to Pioneer Park up on the Red Cliffs and "bouldered" a bit, then off to Firehouse park for some "baseball". Logan and Ivy are both pretty good at hitting those balls!

We have been enjoying the Olympics - every so often we see a shot of where we got engaged 12 years ago... we really loved Vancouver. And cheering on Bodie with the enthusiastic coach in the starthouse, and Lindsay Vonn - she's nuts on skis! I don't know if many people know this, but part of my soundtrack obsession has been trying to track down Olympic songs... iTunes has a great Olympics section! Very cool...

SO, haven't really had time to do any random things, but I want to see The Lightning Thief, and I can't wait til New Moon comes out on DVD... I do DVR things like White Collar (love USA channel, good series there), Project Runway, Bones, Fringe, and my guilty trash, Vampire Diaries. If you've read the books, then the story really veers away...I've said too much, haven't I? Oh, and American Idol - already picking this year's favorites.
Well, I'm off to grade some more, and hopefully get more than 5 hours of sleep tonight... Miss everyone!

Happy New Year!

We (Andy, Krista, MaryBeth, and Sarah) safely made the trek to Greeley, CO, on Sunday (12/19). It was about 12 1/2 hours there, with no snow on the road, and no major stoppages, but wind going uphill. Sarah loved traveling with her Grammie and personal masseuse. At the White's of Colorado, we took the kids sledding twice, once up to Estes Park, and once just down the street from the house. It did snow about a foot on Wednesday. Andy, MB, and I went to visit my Aunt Mary and Steve in Berthoud. Then we had lunch at Culver's (treat from MN)! MB, Tammie, and I went to see New Moon again...second time for them, third time for me. Christmas was good - lots of fun with Megan and Madison. We left MB in Greeley for another week and headed home.

One day in bed, then on Wednesday, Andy and I went to get some groceries and do some errands. Mom and Dad came skidding (literally) into town that evening. Our roads are not paved, not scraped, and definitely not salted or gravelled. We do have a couple of inclines, and some 90 degree turns on the way out to the house. So, we got a call saying that they couldn't make it up a hill. We headed over to help, but the roads were REALLY SLICK! Fortunately, the guy whose house was right there had a tractor, and he came out and scraped up the snow for traction, and SHAZAAM! we were on our way.

We had a mini New Year's eve dinner/party. Only 8 people, but a fun group. We are recovering and computing and sudokuing today. Happy New Year's everyone! May 2010 bring you health, family, and not too many bumps. I'm back to work on the 4th, and Andy starts classes on the 11th.

News for December - WOW!

It's been a crazy few weeks. We had a wonderful time in California at Kate's for Thanksgiving (found a new wine, check out the site on the right). We cut some trees at MB's and Andy got a part to fix the waterheater.
I finally had the garage sale...we did really well, evidently. Two cars in the garage - just in time!
For massive snow!!!!! We got 10 inches or so, but it DID drift a little in the open spaces one night. Since then, it hasn't gotten above freezing, so it's still here. Andy got snow, burritos, and carrot cake for his birthday. He's been studying for finals... I've been driving the Nissan...checking to make sure it works before we head to CO for Christmas! Well, I've avoided work for long enough... enjoy the changes! Here's the Birthday shout-out:

Pre-Thanksgiving Checklist

So...we made it to MaryBeth's house. All the animals acted like they'd been starved for days...drama queens! You know how when you travel there's always stuff left behind? It's inevitable that something gets left, and then you have to talk about it and decide how important it really is. I mean, is it like going camping without sleeping bags and pillows, or is it like camping without a spatula? So I've decided that you can't go anywhere without something being left behind. What are we missing? Here's the list: my phone chargers (car and regular), dvd movies for bedtime (MB has some good ones), and chairs (the living room couch has been sent to a new home).

But all will be well... I turned the phone off to conserve the battery. I moved the plastic off one of the chairs to sit here and type. The heat is on in the house, and the dogs are playing...
What else happens at the holidays? Well, hopefully we can stave off any serious illnesses, but we do both have a little congestion.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

News from Hurricane, UT...

Andy and I have been attending James' (#21) youth football games the last couple of months. We've really enjoyed watching (and cheering) these young men play. They put a lot of hard work in and made it to the Championship Game for their age group undefeated. (These pictures are from their playoff game 11/14.) Unfortunately, they lost a heartbreaker last night. The game went into overtime last night at 0-0. Then each team scored in the first overtime. In double overtime, each team scored again. Going into triple overtime, it was tied 14-14. Hurricane had the first shot and scored, but missed the extra point. Their opponents scored and made the extra point. The boys (and all the fans) were sorely disappointed in the loss, but all the fans knew how hard a game it had been. (This was a little extra hard because Hurricane HS had gone to the State finals for 3A the night before - 2nd year in a row - and lost in the last 3 seconds.) But the 6th graders were the only youth team from Hurricane to make the Championship game....next year, they'll definitely kick some more butt!

On the movie front, we double-dated to New Moon - it was great! The movie and the company, of course... Dee and Steve borrowed our copy of Twilight the night before so Steve was up to speed.

Happy November!

Here's the list of the lucky November birthdays:
(that I can remember right now...I just KNOW I'm forgetting several)
Grandma Meisel

Logan ( #1 Nephew!)

Lots of home maintenance going on this weekend. We also did the Butch Cassidy 5K walk this weekend with some neighbors - good times! Hurricane USA League 6th grade team won last night under the lights (go James!) - they beat my students, but it was a good game. Will post more later. Gotta bike ride and do citizenship grades for report cards - YIKES!
